Improve your home with a window box
Not everyone has a garden or any outdoor space, but you can still create your very own mini-garden with a window box.
They brighten up any house and are very straightforward to install. Make sure you are able to water them frequently, so don’t choose a window that is stiff or awkward to open.
Choose a box that is about the width of your window, and use strong mounts to support its weight on the wall. It is better to use too many plants than too few; most window boxes look better with more flowers or plants, and you can always take some out at a later date if you need to.

Where to put your window box
It is important to choose a window that you look out of often, and not one that has heavy curtains obscuring the view of the window.
It might be nice to choose a window that can be seen from the street too. Plant taller flowers or plants at the back of the window box, with smaller or cascading flowers at the front. It’s a good idea to tuck a few shorter flowers in the back for you to enjoy from inside the window too.
As it will be outside, you can chose from materials such as wood, wrought iron, plastic or PVC.
Also, although you can buy window boxes from garden centres, or just use a wooden box, you can also make your very own from scratch. This website will show you how.
