Add a water feature to your garden
One sure-fire way to spruce up your garden is to install a water feature. This will instantly increase the value of your house.
It is not impossible to install a water feature yourself, but it can be quite difficult so you will need to do your research beforehand. However, the advantage of ‘doing-it-yourself’ is that you can get exactly the feature that you want, so that it suits your garden perfectly.
Firstly, you have to think about the size and shape that you want. Do you just want a pond or do you want a fully functioning fountain? Think about the depth that you want your feature, and if you want any type of guard up around it (consider this if you have small children). Do you want it to take up a lot of your garden?

How to install your water feature in your garden
Firstly, you need to dig a hole. Depending on the depth and size you choose, you may need to use power tools, but you should try to rent (or borrow) these to keep the costs down.
Next you will need to line your hole with a suitable waterproof material, and make sure it is secure. Then fill your hole with rocks; layering large and small rocks will make the pond or water feature look more natural. One tip, from here, is to use less rocks in a deep pool, and more rocks in a shallow pool. Finally, fill your pond up, and you’re done!
It can be quite a big job, so enlist the help of your friends if necessary – and then reward them with a garden party when it’s all finished.
